About MAP

Background

Since the privatization of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), the industry has been faced with the huge burden of metering customers by the eleven distribution companies. Concerted efforts at reducing the prevalent metering gap have yet to deliver a lasting solution as a large percentage of customers are yet to be metered. The MAP program represents a bold move by industry players to address the metering gap in the industry. In an effort to enable more efficient meter deployment and close the metering gap, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) issued the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Regulation in 2018.

MAP means Meter Asset Provider. This is an independent 3rd party granted a permit by NERC to provide metering services which may include meter financing, procurement, supply, installation, maintenance and replacement

In line with the new metering regulation, Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) are going to be primarily responsible for providing metering services, which had been solely provided by the DisCos up till now.

Turbo Energy is an Approved MAP.

NERC officially approved the cost of the MAP meters and they are detailed below as:

  • Single phase Meter – N36,991.5
  • Three phase meter –  N67,055.85
  • MAP activities officially commenced from 1st May, 2019

AEDC has put together a dedicated and experienced team to ensure that the MAP Project is executed to serve customers metering need and also meet the Regulator’s requirements.  The MAP office is located at No. 56 Yaounde Street, Wuse Zone, Abuja – FCT.
